Best Plate Compactor for Clay Soil Backfill?

I do a lot of trench backfilling for utility work and struggle with clay soil that tends to clump and not compact evenly. Which plate compactor size and weight work best for heavy clay? I’m debating between a 150 lb and 200 lb model. Also curious about vibrating vs. impact plate designs. Any tips on moisture content and layering thickness to get proper density? Need something reliable that can handle daily abuse. Thanks for your recommendations!
