Prevent Mat Tearing & Scuffing on Fresh Asphalt Jobs

I’ve been doing more asphalt compaction work lately and occasionally deal with mat tearing or scuffing marks on the final surface — especially on cooler days or tight turns. What’s your technique for clean turns without damaging the fresh mat? Also curious about drum water systems — how wet is too wet? I’m running a double-drum walk-behind unit. Any tips on rolling patterns to achieve that perfect, uniform finish that inspectors love? Would love to hear your field-tested methods!
